In a previous life, Carol was also a criminal defense and constitutional lawyer. Her writings may be found in numerous journals, including Action Yes, American Letters & Commentary, Caketrain, Drunken Boat, Exquisite Corpse, Fiction International, First Intensity, Gargoyle, Journal of Experimental Literature, LIT, and Notre Dame Review.
Her work has appeared in anthologies such as Diagram III, Heide Hatry: Heads & Tales, The Penguin Book of Australian Women Poets, and The & Now Awards: The Best Innovative Fiction.
Her fully illustrated collection, Giraffes in Hiding: The Mythical Memoirs of Carol Novack, was published in 2010 by Spuyten Duyvil Press.
As our dear friend Jonathan Penton, Editor-in-Chief of Unlikely Stories, said recently, "Goodbye, Carol. Madness is less fun without you."
